Artistic Description/ Biography:  This is a short story about me, Vicki Smith and how art became my passion. I am an Army brat, one of three daughters. During my childhood we lived in Germany, Washington, Massachusetts, and traveled all over the United States. My fathers military career had an influence on my career as you will read about later. As a child I remember watching my father draw or carve leather. He encouraged me and often said my work was better than his. I decided then I wanted to pursue a career in art. After High School I decided to enlist in the Marine Corps because they offered Illustrator job opportunities. As it turned out, the Marine Corps chose law enforcement for me. I met and married another Marine and now are proud parents of a beautiful girl who is currently attending college and has given me two handsome grandsons. I spent almost nine years serving our country as a Police Officer and Detective. After the Marine Corps I continued on the same career path with law enforcement working in Arizona where I became the first female Field Training Officer and was awarded with Officer of the Year. I eventually left law enforcement and tried different careers in Hotel Management and finally Call Center Management. Along with the states I have already mentioned, I have lived in North Carolina, New Mexico, Florida, and Oregon. Four years ago I decided to retire and moved to Missouri so I could be near my daughter and Grandsons. Throughout my life I have on occasion picked up a pencil, pen and whatever paper I had on hand and created a quick sketch. During the onset of Covid I decided I would try painting. Not sure of my talent I began with Paint by Numbers. For those who have not tried, I will tell you that it is not as easy as the companies describe. I then found numerous artists on Youtube who have shared their work through tutorials. Now I am comfortable with my own creations and look forward to a future in art that I can share with my family. I gather most of my inspiration from flowers and landscapes. Several of my paintings depict rivers, mountains, and flowers. I hope the viewer can see themselves in the middle of the scenery.
