Artistic Description/ Biography:  "To unify Impressionism throughout the Missouri River Valley Region by connecting artists who are consistent in their pursuit of the rural, urban, and historic beauty of our unique geography, while embracing the various approaches unique to each artist in this representation of beauty and truth." The Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (MVIS) is an organization developed to help gain interest, appreciation, recognition, and to support and preserve the spotlight of today’s modern Impressionism throughout the Missouri River Valley Region. That region being comprised of the following states: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. The organization is made up of a network of artists; both en atelier (studio) and plein air (open air). Over thirty Charter Members make up the foundation of the society and serve as an anchor to support the organization. The MVIS allows those who work in Impressionism to paint and exhibit together and is one of the few organizations in the Midwest that embraces the method of painting en plein air, a method the Impressionists are able to call their own. The organization encourages, hosts, and sponsors plein air paint outs as well as en atelier sessions, workshops, and exhibitions throughout the year. The society is based out of Kansas City, KS, St. Joseph, MO, and Omaha, NE.
